WHAT IS THE PROCESS TO GET A TREE AT SLEIGHBELL?

We have many items available to help our customers find the perfect Christmas tree:

  • Handsaws: We have plenty of sharp handsaws for cutting your tree. We do not permit chain saws or axes for safety reasons.

  • Tree Carts: Carts are available to help transport the tree from the field to your car

  • Assistance: Sleighbell staff is available to assist you with your tree. Don’t be shy about asking for help! We’ll help cut, carry, or assist you with tying your tree onto your vehicle. Customers are responsible for ensuring tree is tied securely to the vehicle!

Once you select your tree:

  • Tree Tags: Our staff will tie a tag on your tree and give you a portion of the tag. You will need to bring that tag to the Gift Barn to pay for your tree and have it stamped. Then give the stamped tag to one of our staff members to match up to your tree.

  • Tree Shaker: We shake your tree to remove leaves, grass, and old needles

  • Tree Wrap:  We will “wrap” or bale your tree in netting once it has been shaken for easy transportation. Wrapping the tree will help you to bring it into your house to avoid breaking branches.  Helpful hint: Once your tree is in the house, place your tree in the tree stand and adjust it so that it is straight. Cut the netting off AFTER the tree is secure and straight. Then, fill the stand with water.

  • Twine:  A bucket of twine is located near the baler for customer use. Help yourself! Before you drive off, please take the time to check and ensure your tree is tied securely.

In a nutshell: Once you have your tree, bring it to the baler. Our staff will tag, shake, and wrap your tree. Head into the Gift Barn to pay for it, then hand that tag to one of our staff to match it to your tree to bring home.

HOW DO I CARE FOR MY TREE ONCE I BRING IT HOME?

The best way to ensure a fresh tree is to keep it in plenty of water!  A large tree stand is a must, preferably holding at least a gallon of water. When you bring your tree home, cut off another 1 inch of the bottom of the trunk and immediately put in water. Trees get very thirsty- a 6 to 8 ft tree will drink 1 to 2 gallons of water a day. Just like fresh flowers, your tree will only survive if it has plenty of water. Water is all you need to keep your tree fresh- it doesn't need bleach, sugar, or anything else!

We also recommend you keep your tree away from heat registers, space heaters, fireplaces, wood-stoves, and other heat sources. Don't use frayed or broken lights and unplug the lights when you are out of the room, asleep, or away.

IS GETTING A REAL TREE the “GREEN WAY”?

YES! Besides providing open space and natural habitat for birds and wildlife, real Christmas trees are a renewable and recyclable resource. For every tree harvested, 1 to 3 seedlings are planted in its place. Also while they are growing, real Christmas trees absorb carbon dioxide and other gases and emit fresh oxygen.Artificial trees contain petroleum based, non-biodegradable plastics, lead, and other toxins. Once discarded, it will remain in a landfill for centuries.
